BE(Hons), PhD (Electrical Engineering), University of Auckland, New Zealand
MBA, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), International House, Santiago, Chile
Graduate Diploma in Information Design (GDID), Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, New Zealand
Member, Technical Communicators Association of New Zealand (TCANZ).
My experience is varied, which means I can edit documents on a wide range of subjects.
Telecommunications: I spent approximately 30 years in the telecommunications industry, working in roles as
diverse as equipment design, sales, and strategic planning.
This work included one year in Britain, five years in a Japanese-New Zealand joint venture, visits to Japan, and
stints in Indonesia.
Teaching English: In 2004-05, I taught English to business people in Santiago, Chile.
Writing and editing: My writing and editing experience includes tender documents, newsletters, service contracts,
and articles for various publications, including:
• Dominion Post (newspaper)
• Strategic Management
• Art New Zealand
• Journey (Australia)
I was twice editor of the
New Zealand Alpine Journal.
Antarctica: I worked in Antarctica for two summers, where I was responsible for the safety of personnel in the
field — mostly on geophysics and soil-science projects, but also film-making.
